Lyrics

Me and Robbie in the Summertime
Watching records spin, living dime to dime.
Robbie says that there’s nowhere to go:
He dropped too much acid and there’s nothing really left to know.

“We exist and then one day we cease.
The rest is a fiction sustained by belief,
and all the things that we say, think and do
go up in smoke. Can you tell me what’s really true?”

In my summation, Robbie’s really cool.
A transcendental felon kicked out of his school.
I’m fascinated by his Nordic gaze
His eyes match the skies of these sunny Carolina days.

I’m 17 and all I got is my name.
Some vinyl and some poetry are my claim to fame.
Robbie’s got a girlfriend that I’ve never seen.
He’s shrugs at tradition and he knows what makes people mean.

We stand apart from all the madness:
Magnolia queens, the jocks, and the country club shrews.
We rise above the grief and sadness.
We covet not, cause then, there’s nothing to lose,

but one exception pierced my heart and it did not mend.
How bittersweet that college came to claim me and put an end

to my days with you,
to my days with you,
to my days with you.

We’re dreaming on a dime bag and a quart of Corona.
We’re singing spacey songs as days and nights slip away.
I’m wondering who I’ll be when summmer’s come and gone.

To my days with you.

I’m dreaming on a dime bag and a quart of Corona.
I’m singing all the songs we sang as nights slipped away.
I’m wondering who I am now that summer’s come and gone
